Is ar scath a chéile a mhaireann na daoine - ’people live on each other’s shadows’, or rather, they depend on each other to get along. We’d like to ask you to get involved in the activities of the church as much as you can. Our social committee is running events regularly throughout the year, you’ll find details elsewhere in this website. We’ve already had a party for the children of the Sunday Club, and also a Fun Quiz night, both of which were a great success and many thanks to all who came along and all who helped in the running and organising of them. Oíche Féile PádraigThe next exciting episode will be the St Patrick’s Eve Dinner with the Augustinians which went very well last year (more information here), and there’s more planned besides. Rotas There’s also the rotas for Refreshments after the Sunday service and for flowers; please give your name to the churchwardens if you’d like to get involved. Confirmation There will be a Confirmation this year, 22nd May. It will be taken by the (retired) Archbishop of Dublin, Walton Empey, since we’ve no Bishop of our own. Classes will be on a Saturday morning, beginning on 2nd April. Anyone who has a child to be confirmed, please contact me with their names. [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ] The classes will be held in the Vestry of St Nicholas’ at 11.00 am on Saturday mornings and should last approximately 45 minutes. To fulfill Safeguarding Trust provision, we will make out a rota for one or two parents to remain in the class each week. [It is possible that you might also learn something!] It is assumed that Confirmation candidates and their families will attend church between now and then. Adult Classes We’re also going to run classes for adults who would like to reconfirm the vows they made at their confirmation, or who, perhaps, were never confirmed in the first place. Many of us never had a chance to ask awkward questions of anyone when we were going to Confirmation classes in our youth, so now’s yer chance. The classes will be organised together with the Augustinian parish, and myself and Fr Dick Lyng will be taking them. Each week there will be a short talk on something, followed by the chance for each person to ask a question on any topic connected with religion or church or faith. There will also be a small [tiny!] amount of homework. [Sorry!] People will then be able to reconfirm their vows at the Confirmation service in May, in our respective churches. This would be a good way to kickstart your faith all over again, or give it a good working over. Holy Week For Holy Week we will be having the usual round of services on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Please consider coming along. This is the most important time in the Christian Calendar, a chance to think and pray about the mystery of love and suffering that is at the centre of our faith. |
