| St. Nicholas' Traditional Irish Music Concert Series |
|
This summer in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, Galway, we are initiating a series of regular acoustic traditional music concerts from the country’s best singers, musicians and dancers. In the unique historical ambience of Ireland’s largest working medieval parish church, dating from the 1200s, where Columbus is said to have worshipped on a visit to Galway, you will be able to hear the music to its best advantage. St Nicholas’ has long been a famous venue for music and the arts, and its cloistered peace is the ideal place for appreciation of our ancient music. The concerts will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, 7.30—9pm in the South Transept. They will be hosted by Cormac Ó Beaglaoich, a scion himself of one of the great musical dynasties of Kerry; Cormac will be introducing both local musicians from the city and from its musical Gaeltacht hinterland in Conamara as well as the best in traditional music from the whole island of Ireland and beyond. Archdeacon Gary Hastings, a well known fluteplayer is Rector of St Nicholas’. We invite you to come and join us in comfort and peace for what will be a stimulating series of events amongst the hallowed stones of this most special place. Tá fearadh na fáilte romhat!
